The Top 3 Benefits for Creating a Quiz to Grow Your Email List
#1 Everyone loves quizzes (well most people do!). It’s fun and quick way to get your audience or new leads to engage and interact with you.
#2 They give you some great insights into your audience or new lead’s struggles, personality, desires and stage in their life or business (which are super useful when it comes to creating your blog, podcast or video content for your audience!).
#3 It’s easy and the fastest way to segment your email list based on the quiz result - yes you can set up different follow up email sequences based on their answers!
I’ve recently created TWO quizzes using Interact, an online quiz builder tool that’s going make your quiz creation process super easy!
Since I’m a Web Designer, both of my quizzes are website related (you can click the image below to try them out!).
The first quiz if for the client group who doesn’t have their own website set up yet and the second quiz is for people who already have their own website set up.
Yes, you can create quizzes just for fun,but if you’re creating quizzes as part of lead generation (to build your email list), then I highly suggest taking time to brainstorm your quiz ideas - and create them strategically.
The great thing about Interact is that they have over 100 pre-made quiz templates that you can use straight away or tweak them to make them your own. These pre-made quiz templates are super useful to give you some ideas.
Are you ready to create your first quiz with Interact? Let’s do this!
How to Create Your First Quiz with Interact
STEP 1: Create an account with Interact
Then click 'Get Started for Free'.
Enter your details and hit 'Create Account'.
It’s free to set up and then you have two options:
If you don’t want to integrate with your email marketing service provider, then you can go for a free version.
Otherwise I recommend signing up for Lite, which is $29/month. You can still sign up for free and try it out for free for 7 day before you make the decision!
STEP 2: Click “Create New Quiz”
Make sure to select ‘Quizzes’ on the left sidebar. Then click ‘Create New Quiz’ on the right top corner.
STEP 3: Select Pre-Made Quiz Template
You’ll now see images of different pre-made quiz templates which you can select and use it as it is or tweak it to make it your own.
Even you’re using your own quiz questions and results, I recommend using the template so that you have something to work from, instead of creating it from scratch. Don’t worry, you can change any element of these quizzes and style them to match your branding!
To save you from scrolling down the page, you can filter by category (your niche). For example, if I select ‘Web Design’ I have 3 website design related templates to choose from.
Once you decided which template to use, click ‘+ Use This Quiz’.
STEP 4: Enable Lead Capture to create opt-in form
Use the toggle at the top of the left sidebar to switch to ‘Enable Lead Capture’ to design your opt-in form.
You can then edit the opt-in form content. You can also change the font size and color of the call to action button to match your branding.
Click ‘Save & Continue’ once done.
STEP 5: Integrate with your Email Marketing Program
First, you’ll have to log-in to your email marketing service provider and create a new list, tag and automation (email sequence) setup for each result.
And then come back to 'Integration' tab and select your email marketing service provider.
Click 'Save & Continue'.
Select specific result and click ‘Add Action’.
And select your Contact List, Automation and Tag for each result.
Once done, click ‘Save & Continue’.
You can also Add Action to specific answers your audience provided. For example, you can add a ‘Tag’ to a specific answer. This is slightly more advanced so I suggest ignoring this step when you’re creating your first quiz (unless you are an advanced marketer!)
Next up, you can choose how your opt-in form fields map to your chosen email marketing service provider.
And finally, you can test integration by entering your email address, name and selecting your quiz result.
STEP 6: Edit and design your Quiz!
Now, we got the boring bit out the way, we can move onto the fun part - editing and designing your quiz content!
You can switch between ‘Content’ and ‘Style’ on the left sidebar to edit and design your quiz content.
Start with ‘Cover’ page and then scroll down the left sidebar to ‘Questions’. (Skip ‘Results’ section as we are emailing the result after they completed the quiz).
Click '+' icon to expand each question and edit content and add image as you wish.
Once you’ve edited the answers, click ‘Edit Result Correlations’ where you can edit correlations to each result.
Click ‘Save’ once done and move onto the next question.
STEP 7: Add redirecting URL
You won’t need to create a result page as people will receive their results via email. But we’ll need to create a ‘Thank You’ page so that when people have completed the quiz, you can redirect people to the Thank You page.
You can create Thank You page with your website platform or by using LeadPages.
Once you created a Thank You page, click ‘Redirect Results’ on the left sidebar under ‘Results’ section and check ‘Redirect All’ and enter your Thank You page URL to each result.
Click ‘Save Redirection Settings’.
STEP 8: Preview your Quiz!’
Make sure you preview your quiz before you hit ‘Publish’.
STEP 9: PUBLISH your Quiz!
Once you’re happy with your new quiz, hit ‘Publish’.
You’ll see different options to promote your quiz.
You can embed your quiz on your website by copying and pasting embed code or my preference is a direct URL and I share my quizzes via email and social media platforms.
I also create an image with a direct URL to my quiz and embed on my website as a call to action like below - so when you click, you’ll be directed to the quiz.
